John
Girls Gymnastics Team Director
John Contreras is the Girls Team Director at Iron Cross Gymnastics and has been a part of the Iron Cross family for more than 15 years. With over 25 years of coaching experience, John has had the opportunity to work with gymnasts at every competitive level, from Levels 2 through 10. Throughout his career, he has helped athletes advance into the USA Gymnastics TOPS program, reach the collegiate level, and accomplish goals they once only dreamed of.
For John, one of the best parts of coaching is getting to be there from the beginning—watching young gymnasts take their first steps into competitive gymnastics and helping them grow into confident, hardworking athletes. He loves seeing their dedication pay off and being a part of all the big and small moments that happen along the way.
John has been a USA Gymnastics-certified coach for 20 years and has traveled across the country with his athletes for competitions and countless memorable experiences. When he isn’t in the gym, John enjoys staying active, attending sporting events and other fun activities, and spending time making memories with his family and friends.

Garett
Karate Director
Garett
Karate Director
My name is Garett Lee, but most people know me as Coach G, I’ve been training in marital arts for 28 years and teaching for 16 of that. I grew up in a karate household where both my parents were competitors and school owners for over 30 years so you can say blackbelts run the family. I made blackbelt in September 1999 at the age of 7 making me one of the youngest of time. After making blackbelt I dedicated myself to competition and competing all over the world which led me to accomplish many goals, like being the #1 ranked Jr blackbelt in forms & fighting in Texas from 2008-2012. Making Team USA in 2016 and coming home with the silver medal at the world games held in Dublin, Ireland in heavyweight fighting. Countless grand championships at local and state tournaments including 2022 Jam all nationals grand champion and being ranked 2nd in the world for traditional Japanese Forms in N.A.S.K.A (North American Sport Karate Association) in 2021.
During this time, I also coach my students to multiple gold medals at numerus events including the US Open (on ESPN) and the 2020 AAU Jr Olympics. I’m a huge nerd for Ninja turtles and Star Wars so don’t judge me if you hear me quote Master Splinter or Yoda. I love my two dogs Shadow an Ashoka who always keep me on my toes. If I’m not training, traveling, or competing for a karate tournament I can be found with them, usually in the backyard with something on the grill or on the couch watching a good movie. My passion is passing on the knowledge and skills of martial arts to the next generation not just to become champions in competition but Champions in life.

Georgie
Beginnings Gymnastics Director
Georgie
Beginnings Gymnastics Director
My name is Coach Georgie & I’m the Beginnings Director at Iron Cross. My gymnastics journey began at the age of 4 when my mother figured out that I’m too “bouncy” for ballet class. Growing up I was a cheerleader & a diver. I began teaching gymnastics in Austin while attending the University of Texas, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. My Iron Cross journey began in December of 2020 after relocating back to Richmond. During my 30 years of coaching, I’ve taught children from 18 months old up to Level 4 competitive girls gymnastics. For me, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping a child learn & grow. Working with our 2-6 year old students brings milestone celebrations everyday. They say “it takes a village” & I am honored & humbled every day that I get to be a part of that village. When I’m not at the gym, you can find me at the beach or on the trail with my Jeep family & my miniature dachshund.
